Solar for New Sports and Recreation Facilities
Sports complexes, aquatic centers, and recreation facilities carry lighting, pool heating, and HVAC loads that run into the evening, and the 2025 Energy Code added sports and recreation to the occupancies that must install PV and battery storage. Large roofs, parking fields, and spectator canopies give these facilities more solar area than most.
Eventure's Role
Eventure works with public agencies, sports facility developers, and their design teams to plan solar and storage that meet the code and the facility's operating schedule.
We bring solar into the project at schematic design, size the Energy Code requirement, coordinate the roof, structure, electrical rooms, and battery location with your architect and engineers, and carry the system through permitting, utility interconnection, inspection, commissioning, and closeout.
Title 24 treatment
Sports and recreation occupancies were added to Tables 140.10-A and 140.10-B under the 2025 Energy Code, requiring PV and battery storage on newly constructed buildings with permit applications on or after January 1, 2026.
Design Considerations
What is different about sports & recreation.
- Evening loadsField lighting and evening programming fall outside solar hours. Storage shifts daytime production into those windows and reduces demand charges.
- Pools and aquatic centersPool heating and dehumidification are large, steady loads that solar and storage offset effectively.
- Canopies and shadeSpectator shade structures, parking canopies, and dugout covers can all host PV and count toward Solar Access Roof Area.
- New occupancy under the 2025 codeSports and recreation buildings permitted on or after January 1, 2026 carry the PV and battery requirements.
Keep Solar Off the Critical Path
Don't let solar be the last thing standing between your project and its Certificate of Occupancy.
On sports & recreation projects, as on every California building, the Energy Code requirement, the fire authority's review of the battery, the utility's interconnection timeline, and the building's final inspection all depend on the solar scope being designed, permitted, installed, and documented in sequence. We treat it as a scheduled trade from day one.
Solar and the Certificate of Occupancy
Questions
Sports & Recreation solar, answered.
Do new sports facilities in California need solar?
Under the 2025 Energy Code, newly constructed sports and recreation buildings must install PV and battery storage, subject to the roof-area and minimum-size exceptions. Outdoor fields without buildings are not themselves subject to the requirement.
Can shade structures over bleachers carry solar?
Yes. New structures capable of supporting PV count toward Solar Access Roof Area, and spectator shade canopies are a natural location for capacity.

Send us the drawings at any stage. We will size the Title 24 requirement, review the roof and electrical approach, and map the path to a Certificate of Occupancy that does not wait on solar.
