Solar for New Medical Office Buildings and Clinics
Medical office buildings and outpatient clinics are listed occupancies under the Energy Code, and the 2025 code raised their PV capacity factor in every climate zone. They also carry loads that matter: imaging equipment, refrigerated pharmaceuticals, procedure rooms, and IT. Solar and storage planned early serve both compliance and continuity.
Eventure's Role
Eventure designs solar and storage for healthcare real estate developers, health systems, and general contractors building medical office and clinic facilities.
We bring solar into the project at schematic design, size the Energy Code requirement, coordinate the roof, structure, electrical rooms, and battery location with your architect and engineers, and carry the system through permitting, utility interconnection, inspection, commissioning, and closeout.
Title 24 treatment
Medical office buildings and clinics are listed occupancies under Section 140.10, requiring PV and battery storage on newly constructed buildings. The 2025 Energy Code increased the MOB/clinic PV capacity factor in all climate zones.
Design Considerations
What is different about medical offices & clinics.
- Which permitting path appliesFreestanding medical office buildings and many clinics are permitted through local building departments. Facilities under the jurisdiction of the state's healthcare facility authority follow a different review process that affects timing. We confirm the path at the outset.
- Critical loads and storageVaccine refrigeration, procedure rooms, and data closets benefit from backup power. A compliance battery can be designed to carry those loads if the critical-load panel is in the electrical design.
- Roof equipment densityClinical HVAC and exhaust requirements crowd roofs. Coordinating equipment placement early protects Solar Access Roof Area.
- Tenant mix and meteringMulti-tenant medical buildings are metered like offices. The 2025 small tenant space exclusion and the multitenant exception may affect the calculation.
Keep Solar Off the Critical Path
Don't let solar be the last thing standing between your project and its Certificate of Occupancy.
On medical offices & clinics projects, as on every California building, the Energy Code requirement, the fire authority's review of the battery, the utility's interconnection timeline, and the building's final inspection all depend on the solar scope being designed, permitted, installed, and documented in sequence. We treat it as a scheduled trade from day one.
Solar and the Certificate of Occupancy
Questions
Medical Offices & Clinics solar, answered.
Do hospitals follow the same solar requirements as medical offices?
No. Hospitals and certain licensed healthcare facilities are permitted and regulated differently, and hospital occupancies are not among the Table 140.10-A listed types in the same way medical office buildings and clinics are. We confirm the classification with the design team before sizing anything.
Can a clinic's battery back up refrigerated medications?
Yes, when the critical-load panel and controls are designed for it. We identify the loads with the operator and size the battery accordingly during design.

Send us the drawings at any stage. We will size the Title 24 requirement, review the roof and electrical approach, and map the path to a Certificate of Occupancy that does not wait on solar.
